NJ Drum School is operated by Roy Van Tassel, a professional instructor and musician with 13 years of experience teaching comprehensive drum technique along with over 20 years of experience as a successful live and studio drummer. Individual classes focus on proper technique, coordination and sight reading while offering a fun, rewarding experience for students of all ages and skill levels.

Hand Technique

It's easy to develop bad habits when you first start, especially when trying to learn on your own. We focus on all the basics that are necessary to ensure your hands and sticks work together in a tension-free manner.

Sight Reading

Reading music is often overlooked and seen as being unnecessary. This is a terrible misconception, as learning to read and count allows for a better understanding of rhythms as well as a way to communicate with other musicians.

Coordination

Drumming is a great physical and mental exercise. When your hands are doing something in a synchronized manner, you promote balance between both hemispheres of the brain. No matter if young or old, the benefits are tremendous.
